Carroll County grand jury returns animal cruelty indictments

Two Carroll Countians were indicted Thursday on multiple counts of animal cruelty.

A Carroll County grand jury indicted Tara Neutzler and Donald Schoenfeld, no ages or addresses available, on 34 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, 118 counts of cruelty to animals, two counts of aggravated child neglect or endangerment and two counts of criminal attempt to commit aggravated child neglect or endangerment on Thursday.

These indictments were issued as a result of an investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.

“As district attorney, it is my responsibility to find justice not only for the two-legged citizens of the 24th Judicial District, but for the four-legged ones as well. We do so not only for the sake of the animals, but because those who are cruel to innocent animals often also impose a danger to people,” said Matt Stowe, district attorney for the 24th Judicial District, which includes Henry County. “I ask for the public’s assistance in reporting any instances of animal cruelty, whether in Carroll County or any county in our district. We do hear you and we will act.”

Stowe also thanked Carroll County Sheriff Andy Dickson, Deputy Christopher Adams and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and the Animal Rescue Corps for their hard work and dedication to protecting animals in a case of this magnitude.
